Our special guest for this week's show is Woodeene Koenig-Bricker, author of Ten Commandments for the Environment: Pope Benedict XVI Speaks Out for Creation and Justice .
This noted and Catholic journalist skillfully weaves together Pope Benedict's key statements on environmental justice into one volume. Additionally, she offers commentary that helps to unpack the Ten Commandments for the Environment, which were recently released by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. Woodeene helps us understand how a commitment to being environmentally responsible blends with our Catholic faith and offers suggestions for building this lifestyle within our families. We begin a series of monthly reflections on the Year of the Priest. In today's reflection, Deacon Tom invites us to consider that priests are a manifestation of the love of Christ, and that priests are the gloves that God uses to touch us. In this week’s Mary Moment, Sarah Reinhard reflects on Mary as a baby person, inspired by the experience of her brother’s new son. Our guest this week is Steve Weidenkopf, noted speaker and author of the amazing resource Epic: A Journey Through Church History . Epic
is a twenty part study on the two thousand year history of the Catholic
Church. Steve and his co-author, Dr. Alan Schreck, identfy the main
events in history, culture and politics, as well as identifying the
popes, martyrs, saints and Doctors of the Church.
This week, Deacon Tom shares a reflection "Do Not Lose Heart -- There is Good News!" Tom's sharing is based on thoughts from a Staff Worker at Madonna House in Canada. Sarah Reinhard reflects on a passage from Mother Teresa: In the Shadow of Our Lady, by Joseph Langford, encouraging us to seek Christ's peace in the midst of suffering. This week, we share the special music of Dr. Mike McCabe, a pediatrician and Catholic family man. "The purpose of my music is to draw the family together and celebrate what they are all about" says Dr. Mike. The types and styles of music chosen by Dr. Mike shows this very thing. "I
like songs that are of a nature that both child and adult will enjoy.
The lyrics have things that will give both age groups something to
enjoy and share. My goal is to have songs that are enjoyed by both
adult and child, although often for different reasons."
